Teaching points

• Read the question first for names, dates, figures, or specific facts.
• Scan the passage for the keyword or a synonym.
• Slow down only around the likely evidence.
• Do not reread the entire passage for one detail question.
• STEP trap: a number may appear more than once with different meanings.

Reading passage
