• Look backward first.
• Match singular/plural.
• Check logic, not just grammar.
• "This/that" may refer to a whole idea, not one noun.
• "They/them/their" must refer to a plural noun or group.
• STEP trap: the nearest noun may be grammatically possible but logically wrong.

Reading passage
